The American Chemical Society is a national organization consisting of more than 161,000 professional members. Originally the Student Affiliates, the chapter at UTEP has just recently gained Student Member status. This means all the benefits of being a full member at the affiliate price!
Membership in the UTEP chapter of ACS-SM is beneficial and open to ALL people, and ALL MAJORS with an interest in science.
We are an on-campus organization and participate in as many events as possible, including: Homecoming, Tailgating, and Minerpalooza. Along with these we celebrate our own events: National Chemistry Week, Earth Day, and the upcoming Southwest Regional Conference 2009 to be held in El Paso and hosted by us!
Aside from these campus events the members of our chapter understand how daunting chemistry and a science focused education can be. So, we offer the opportunity to meet and get help from our members that are also peer leaders for all lower division chemistry courses (general and organic chemistry). And to escape the stress of being a college student we hold plenty of socials throughout the year, ranging from Movie Nights to Tailgates and full access to the ACS Room (our little clubhouse stocked with food, a computer with printer, and plenty of sprawling couch space).
So please feel free to ask any questions and come join us to find out a little more about the bonds we can make!
